Thermometer is a measuring instrument to measure the degree of hot and cold. The heat energy is the form of energy which moves from hot particles in the substance to the colder particles. When material is hot its particles move much faster than when its in a colder state. Thermal energy is the sum movement of kinetic energy of the particles.

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenhiet, a German scientist introduced first thermometer in the year 1709. It contained alcohol. The thermometer filled with mercury was made in the year 1714.

Many types of thermometer are used these days but the most common method is to use thermometer filled with mercury. Since mercury is a health hazard and not safe for children to use in school science project. There are other options to make school project on thermometer such as liquid filled thermometers coloured with vegetable dyes.

Material needed to make this school science project :

  1. Clean plastic bottle
  2. Rubbing alcohol
  3. Plastic straw
  4. Modelling clay

Procedure

Put water in the bottle, fill it to one fourth

Add rubbing alcohol to the bottle till the bottle is half full.

Then add a few drops of food colour to the mixture in the to make it visible

Add the straw in the bottle, make sure it doesn’t touch the base of the bottle

Lock the mouth of the bottle with the clay and let it settle for sometime at room temperature.

Stick a card  stock paper to the outer end of the straw and mark the point where the liquid is right now and that can be taken as room temperature.

Many projects can be listed under this but simplest to make would be solar oven. A simple school science project which uses direct sunlight as the source of energy to cook food. All it needs is a basic box and lots of aluminium foil paper to concentrate sun rays to slow cook the food. Make a solar cell and this simple kit helps you make one. http://www.projectsforschool.com/product/make-solar-cell-school-project-for-kids/

  1. Solar energy conversion

Simple circuits which use photo voltaic panel to make a science project. For example a solar powered fan is a simple science project to see solar energy conversion to electricity. More gadgets can be used with photo voltaic cell to run on solar panels to make a good science project on energy conversion. For example electric buzzers and LEDs can also be made to work with the same.

Simple electric generators are the most fun school science projects to make and the material is easy to get for the same. All you need is lots of copper and few pieces of strong magnets.

When coil of copper wire will be moved through the magnetic field the current will be generated and hence enough electricity can be generated to light up an LED.

The coolest school science project which helps understand how wind energy can generate electricity. All what is requires is a great motor and a fan to make electricity. the blades of the windmill should be large enough or if you are using regular fan then the blades can be moved mechanically to demonstrate energy conversion and generation for the same.
